One week til the show!!

One week from today is the opening night for our Stake Musical Revue. I have learned a lot from this experience.

1) I can’t direct and also participate in the program. As much as I love being part of the action and love to sing – I am not able to sleep at night because the stress has been a little overwhelming.

2) It is okay to say no. I really struggled with balancing what I could actually do in the amount of time given with what actually can be done. I would arrive early and stay late helping with painting, costumes, extra time with songs, etc. I finally had to tell myself that I was doing everything that I could and that was fine.

3) People are flakes sometimes… I didn’t realize when people said that they would be willing to help out with stuff, that they didn’t really mean it. Although I do understand that things get in the way sometimes...

4) Don’t use things that you love for props/costumes. I am over a girl’s number and brought some of my personal things (hats, jewelry, shoes) for the girls to use. I didn’t realize that they would be treated as poorly as they have been. Of course, carting them around doesn’t help…

5) There are dedicated people out there – they come to every practice with a smile on their face and an extremely fun spirit. It is working with them that I remember the reason that I said I would be a director!

I am grateful for the opportunity I have had in being a director. I learned that it is a lot of work for ALL involved!! The cast members have really put a lot of effort into bringing the songs to life. I am really excited to see how things are going to be during the performance!

So, if you are around next week and want something fun to do on Friday or Saturday – let me know!

  1. So jealous! I hope you have fun! I know directing is stressful, especially the first time, but it pays off!
